This is stunning. The deisgn is beautiful, and the carving is so exact. Is this hand carved or did you use machine tools for it?

Really nice. Sharp carvings! Can I ask how you fitted the three (?) pieces together?

Probably a bit late, but I once made a very simple box (not uploaded though). If you find Fabric too brittle, then thin leather can also be used. I used thin pieces of leather as hinges and locking slip on my simple box and its still working like a charm.

We all know about paper cover and hard cover.  But this cover exceeds both of those in so many levels.  Just love the accurate carving that is on it.  how long would this last?

ages if taken care of properly. There are libraries around the world which has books with leather covers that are hundreds of years old. So if taken care of properly, then I can easily imagine that cover last well over 500 years. Maybe a thousand if people really look after it. It also depends on the quality of the wood of course.

I know I'm not the creator of this piece of magnificent art, but I felt like replying anyways, although this is almost 3 years late.
